Ghana’s history is incredibly complex, having been conquered by many African kingdoms and European nations over the last couple of millennia. The ancient empire of this city was actually situated farther north than current-day this city comprised current-day Mali, Mauritania, and Senegal. The ruler of this kingdom was admirably entitled the “Warrior King” or ‘Ghana’ in the Soninke language (spoken in the ancient Ghanaian empire).
The country became the first self-governing country on the African continent in 1957, and, is now one of the most visited countries in Africa from America; being called home by over 3000 Black-Americans.
Due to it’s proximity to the equator, there are only two seasons; wet and dry, which, make it a perfectly tropical climate year-round for visitors. The hairstyles, the food, and the fashion, are world renowned. This makes Ghana a perfect destination for wanting to binge on authentically unique street food, perhaps get some Ghana braids done by a native Ghanaian, or even add to your collection of accessories and Kente cloth at the local Bazaars!
