Saint Lucia

Visit Saint Lucia now!

Saint Lucia is an Eastern Caribbean island with a unique landmark called the Pitons; a pair of almost identical mountains sitting side-by-side on its west coast. It is home to volcanic beaches, luxury resorts, lush rain-forests, waterfalls, and fishing villages. The island was first settled by the Arawaks around the 2nd century CE and shortly after by the Caribs. These early Amerindian peoples called the island “Louanalao” and “Hewanorra,” meaning “Island of the Iguanas.”

The first European explorers to the islands were the English, however, they didn’t remain. The French were the first to settle in the mid 17th century, and were a huge influence to the islands. The food, the culture, and the language are a creolization of French, AmerIndian, and African influences. The main language spoken is a French Creole, not the same as Haiti, yet, belonging to the same family of creoles spoken throughout the French Caribbean.

All in all, Saint Lucia is a gem and well worth a visit!
